Description
Vermiculite bricks are lightweight insulating products made primarily from natural expanded vermiculite, combined with inorganic binders such as cement, sodium silicate (water glass), and asphalt. They are formed under light pressure and then dried or heat-cured into rigid brick shapes.
These bricks offer excellent fire resistance, are environmentally friendly and non-toxic, and provide effective thermal insulation along with sound absorption properties.
The typical service temperature ranges from 800°C to 1100°C. Vermiculite bricks feature low thermal conductivity while maintaining good mechanical strength, making them easy to install and ideal for precise laying in areas such as furnace walls and bottoms, where reliable thermal protection is required.
Standard Sizes:
45 × 65 × 230 mm
65 × 178 × 240 mm
Density: 430–480 kg/m³
Common Types Include:
- Fireplace vermiculite bricks
- Aluminum cell (pot lining) vermiculite bricks
- Electric heater vermiculite bricks
- Custom-shaped (special-shaped) vermiculite bricks
- Ceramic vermiculite insulation boards
- Vermiculite bricks are highly workable and can be custom-manufactured according to drawings. They are also easy to process on-site, allowing for cutting, drilling, nailing, and grooving as needed.
Applications in Modern Construction and Industry
Vermiculite bricks are widely used across a variety of modern construction and industrial applications:
Construction Industry:
Vermiculite bricks are commonly used as thermal insulation and sound-absorbing materials. Typical applications include underground pipeline insulation, greenhouse piping systems, and fire protection components such as fire-rated door panels and lock cores. They are also used in interior and tunnel linings, as well as wall and ceiling systems in public buildings. In laboratory environments, they can serve as part of radiation protection systems due to their ability to absorb scattered radiation.
Fireplaces & Home Heating:
Thanks to their excellent insulation performance and eco-friendly composition, vermiculite bricks are widely used as fireplace lining and insulation materials, often replacing traditional firebricks. They can also be manufactured into custom shapes to meet specific design requirements.
Aluminum Electrolysis Industry:
Vermiculite bricks (or boards) are commonly used as thermal insulation, sealing, and buffer layers in aluminum electrolytic cells. They are suitable for installation at the cell bottom, sidewalls, and joint sealing areas. These materials help reduce heat loss and energy consumption, inhibit electrolyte penetration, and extend the service life of the cell.

In the cement industry, beyond the equipment itself, one of the most critical factors is the energy consumption and heat loss of the kiln system. In a typical clinker production line, the rotary kiln operates continuously at temperatures exceeding 1000°C. Heat dissipation from the kiln shell not only wastes energy, but also directly impacts production efficiency and equipment lifespan. In recent years, more and more manufacturers have turned their attention to an advanced insulation material: nano insulation boards/Microporous Insulation Boards.
In modern electrolytic aluminum production, the thermal balance and structural stability of the pot are directly related to energy consumption and pot life. As a high-performance inorganic refractory material, Sanhe vermiculite board has become a key functional layer in the cathode structure of electrolytic aluminum pots due to its high-temperature resistance, low thermal conductivity, and excellent resistance to fluoride corrosion.
Nano microporous insulation panels have thermal insulation performance that is 3 to 4 times higher than conventional materials and can withstand high temperatures. They are particularly suitable for thermal insulation in steel equipment, helping achieve energy saving and emission reduction.
In modern home design, a wood-burning or gas fireplace is more than just a source of heat—it’s a centerpiece that creates warmth, comfort, and ambiance. However, with flame temperatures often reaching 600°C to over 1000°C, fire safety and thermal efficiency quickly become top priorities in fireplace design.
